who is zakiyaa?

My name is Kathryn, I am the brains, the heart and the hands behind Zakiyaa. I started sewing as a teenager, learning the basics from my wonderful mother but never fully pursuing the craft until my husband gave me a sewing machine about 5 years ago, and I discovered a true passion for sewing. I taught myself how to make bags and create a variety of other goodies. This newfound obsession led me to become really fascinated with fabrics. I enjoy working with both new and recycled materials; I love rediscovering vintage fabrics and giving them new life.

I strive to create original bags that are unique, practical and well made. I create all the designs and patterns myself. I love every bag I make and only make bags that I would feel proud to carry around myself.
